High Speed Multi Media (HSMM) is often referred to as being the Hinternet (Ham Internet), as it is primarily used under FCC Rules & Regulations Part 97. Under Part 97 commercial off-the-shelf equipment can be used at higher power and higher gain than the more common Part 15 802.11a/b/g operations.

The primary purpose for HSMM and Hinternet is to augment emergency communications via long range high speed wireless data networks that can handle voice, data and video communications. HSMM can also be used in the day-to-day aspects of Amateur Radio Communications.

The Fit

With the rapid expansion of Asterisk PBX into the relm of radio communications the added flexibility of having a wireless linking system has also expanded.

It is now possible to have a network of repeaters and link stations that never touch a standard public switched telephone network, yet at the same time this network of repeaters and link stations has all the standard features one will expect to find with any telephone system.

By integrating HSMM along with Asterisk PBX a truly transportable network can be delivered to any location where communications is needed, with voice, data and video all being available to the agencies and organizations being supported.

Control and Monitor Remote Applications

The Maxon SD-170 Series RF Data Radio deliver reliable 2-Way Communications and remote control for a variety of application needs. Available as VHF (SD-171) or UHF (SD-174) with 5 Watts and 16 Channels. The SD-170 Series provides reliable data and voice communication at all times. Crystal clear audio quality makes the SD-170 Series an ideal radio for golf course and emergency call boxes, as well as low-power portable repeaters for job sites and emergency response.

When paired with the optional GMSK or FFSK modem board, the SD-170 Series transmits and receives data for wireless security systems, or it can be used in conjunction with police mobile data terminals for license tag checks.

The optional GPS receiver works with a Automatic Vehicle Location System for tracking fleet movement and communicating data directly to a computer.

How Does It Work?

TL-NET combines all the features of single-site LTR with our VoIP backbone to provide a multi-site LTR trunking solution. All the benefits of single-site LTR are maintained except now it’s multi-site. All dispatch calls are made using transmission trunking. Setup between sites is extremely fast! In fact, just as fast as handshaking with the local site. Your customers will notice no difference other than their range is extended.

View a diagram of the system.

How Do I Use It?

Our system works with standard LTR® capable radios from Icom, Kenwood, Motorola, and many others. Use your existing equipment! No special option boards to install, firmware upgrades or special radio programming required. Each site’s Gateway supports a web server that allows you to control and monitor your system from a PC with an internet connection. From a web browser you can validate/invalidate talk groups, adjust TX voice and data levels, enable/disable network access and much more.

What Equipment is Required?

Each site requires a high-speed internet connection which can be a T1, cable modem, or DSL.

Each repeater site consists of one TL-NET Gateway and an array of repeaters. The Gateway connects your system to the internet and manages the audio channels to and from the repeaters.

One TL-NET Server is required to oversee the entire network. The Server can be located anywhere.

One TL-NET LTR controller is required per repeater. To meet this need we offer two choices: You can go with our CS-540TL-Net Repeater/Controller package, which combines our RF equipment with the TL-NET LTR controller, or you can purchase the TL-NET controller by itself to connect to your own RF equipment.
